The 2017 Summer Exhibition took place at The Stade Hall from 27th to 31st May. On 26th May, the Exhibition was formally opened by the Club’s President, Dr. Richard Baines, in a “private view” event.
34 Club members exhibited a total of 122 “hung” paintings at the Exhibition.
More than 1,200 members of the public visited the Exhibition and 850 of them voted for “Best in Show” of the hung paintings. Every one of the 34 members who exhibited received at least one “Best in Show” vote for one of their works but the painting which received the highest number of votes (48) was Mark Fisher with his work entitled “Summer Meadow”. As usual, it was a close-run thing! Second was Janet Lutkin with 41 votes. Mark Fisher’s 4 paintings gained a total of 109 votes, with Jenny Thompson gaining 91 for hers, Janet Lutkin 71 for hers and Anthony Palmer 59 for his.
Many items on display were sold and the Exhibition also persuaded several visitors to become new members of the Club!
The paintings offered in the raffle were won by ladies called Kay and Penny and the raffle contributed to a substantial donation made to the Hastings RNLI.
